Music Row Murder--Running Blog
In March of 1993, Music Row in Nashville was the site of a murder. This is quite unusual, because Nashville is actually a very safe city. I guess this shows that violence is everywhere.
This was the story of Kevin Hughes, a college graduate and employee of Cash Box Magazine. Cash Box is a trade magazine complete with their own music charts in the back. From these charts, many producers and record executives find the talent of tomorrow, and many disc jockeys find new stuff to play on their stations. He found otu that their music charts were fixed and soon wanted to tell the authorities about the fraudulent business happenings. Shortly thereafter, he was shot.
He was found in the street shot in the back of the head execution style. This was intentional. An informant and former aspiring country music singer turned drug dealer Steve Daniel sang a song about the killing. As time passed, authorities were going to charge the residence of Daniel to sieze his cache of marijuana in the garage. He was believed to have 273 pounds. The drug case had turned into a cold case. Daniel admitted that he had sold a .38 Smith and Wesson to "Tony D," a shady Nashville producer that knew Kevin Hughes. Thirteen slugs were taken from Daniel's backyard. One matched the handgun used to kill Kevin.
Richard D'Antonio was soon discovered in Las Vegasin 2002. He was brought back to Tennessee and tried for first degree murder. He was convicted by a jury of his peers on September 25, 2003 and sentenced to life in prison.
I believe that Kevin found out about the under the table money being made by Dixon and D'Antonio. They found out that he knew about their side money and had hyim killed. I believe that violence begets violence and that justice was finally served.
