Maximum The Hormone マキシマム ザ ホルモン

Maximum the Hormone is a punk band with nu-metal and funk influences. Their style is reminiscent of bands like System Of A Down, The Red Hot Chili Peppers, and The Ramones, which are, according to their songwriter Ryo, their major inspirations.

Striking contrasts from pop-punk to thrash-metal sum up the sound of the band. These various styles, expertly displayed through Daisuke and Ryo's screaming vocals and the remarkable voice of his older sister, and drummer, Nao allow the band to fit well in several genres. The names and lyrics of their songs don't make a lot of sense, but the band doesn't want them to anyway.

Maximum the Hormone has committed themselves to showing their audience a great time, allowing them to have as much fun as possible.

After a couple regional gigs, the band signed a contract with the indie label Sky Records. A.S.A Crew was the first album released under that label. At that time Daisuke wrote his songs only in English, besides that Maximum the Hormone was also written in Latin letters. That changed when KEY and SUGI left band in 1999.

While looking for new members to join the band, Nao thought of her younger brother Ryo, who had been playing the guitar since his years in Junior high school and could sing very well, too. From then on, the two men split up most of the vocals between the two of them: Daisuke taking care of the more screaming and rap vocals and Ryo the more melodic parts. Ue joined as well, completing the quartet as the bassist. After that major change the band decided to base their lyrics and band name on katakana to show what change happened with the replacement of the band members.

Maximum The Hormone is my favorite band! I've been listening to them for about 1 and a half years now. Their songs are amazing and the members are Incredibly talented!

The first time I was introduced to Japanese rock was in the movie "Three Ninjas Kick Back." They kept singing this Japanese pop rock song throughout the movie. Wow, these guys rap too.

I've never heard their music. I don't plan to either, since I can't understand it. "La,la,la,la,la,la,la,la,lie,lie,lie..."
Omg I love it!!
