Potential Oscar Contenders for 2009

The Academy Awards have always been a major event in Pop Culture. Ever since the inception of the award show in 1927, the award shows have featured some highlights and lowlights. When Greer Garson won best actress for the 1942 classic Mrs. Miniver, she delivered one of the most stirring speeches to ever grace the screen. Who could forget the great speeches of Cuba Gooding Jr. and Robin Williams for Best Supporting Actor. Cuba yelled "show me the money," and Robin Williams did his infamous duck dance on stage as celebrations for Jerry McGuire and Good Will Hunting.

There have also been some lowlights. Michael Moore calling out Geroge Bush for instance was a lowlight. He should have kept his politics at home. I am still curious as to why Cher could have possibly won a Best Actress award in any movie, but she has! Movies last year tended to be weak. I mean Juno was up for Best Picture. A good little movie in its own right, but this is certainly not a Best Picture! I haven't seen any dominant performances yet in the Actress categories, but I personally am pulling for Denzel Washington to win Best Director for the Great Debaters and Samuel L. Jackson for Resurrecting the Champ. Below are a couple of trailers from some movies that have been rumored as Academy Award contenders (I will not include The Great Debaters, Resurrecting the Champ, Valkyrie, or The Dark Knight, because they already have been included).

The first movie looked odd. I'd be more likely to watch it than Australia, though.
